WORLD CUP SEASON 2013
| Competition report
Recently, with the last competition in Malaysia, we have completed 7th Accuracy World Cup competitions. In 2013, competitions were organized in Indonesia, Thailand, Portugal, Serbia, Romania and Malaysia. With a total number of 225 competitors, from 27 different countries, it also is a clear pointer that a discipline is spreading a word of accuraccy landing and paragliding in general.Paragliding accuracy competitions were organized in many new countries on many different levels, which is also one of priorities, PGAWC followed from the very beginning.A real refreshment of the 2013 season is Thailand. Paragliding accuracy was taken very seriously and after a couple of years, a lot of young pilots have acchieved some great results in general, female and team competitions.Ammong the group of top pilots, nothing has changed drastically but new and skilled pilots are comming and keep surprising with their acchievements. So, on the winning podium, we have seen pilots from nine different countries, five different competition winners (at the six competitions) and a total of record breaking 30 competition rounds of the season.
PAINAN – INDONESIA
This was the most „flying friendly“ competition site, with smooth and grassy take off and with landing on the open beach with a help of laminar sea breeze. Absolutelly identical conditions for all competitors.A reall special experience was also accommodation, which was organized at the very friendly local residence, which were very interested in a whole event and were loyal spectators for both competition days.
KAO YAI – THAILAND
The other extremity of a whole season. Competition site with a lot of dust at take off and landing, with a lot of wind and thermal activities; flying conditions were on the edge of regularity. Organizer did a really good job trying to do well on all areas and took a good care for competitors. We sincerelly believe, he will also find a more appropriate competition site and bring a whole event to a maximum.
MONT ALEGRE – PORTUGAL
This year was the first time thal Portugal organized PGAWC competition. Some great experiences with organisation of XC competitions in the past, were a warranty that it will be another great competition.Their speciallity was that because of strong winds, a major part of competition landings were completed on neighbouring Spanish flourishing fields.
VRŠAC – SERBIA
After the summer break and Columbian Air Games and Bosnian Paragliding Accuracy World Championship, pilots were ready for other half of a season. Vrsac has announced a hard battle due to strong wind; much stronger than forecasted. Anyway, organizer managed to complete three valid competition rounds and a pre- event for next years European Championship.
TUSNAD – ROMANIA
After Serbia, most of the pilots moved to Romanian Transilvania for a next round. Before last European competition of the season, number of candidates for the highest positions has decreased but a total ranking was still far from being completelly known.A great host did a great job finding a very demanding and tricky competition site since in strong head wind, pilots had a lot of problems reaching target area, at all. At the end, the fifth competition round was not the easiest one but competition committee gawe a blessing and it was completed without a problem.
RANAU – MALAYSIA
A proven Paragliding Accuracy competition organizer did a great job organizing PGAWC event and Pre-Asian Championship, at the same time. With all six competition rounds completed in very demanding landing conditions, pilots were struggling to land precisely and safely but not so many of them really succeeded in their intentions. After only two competition rounds, a total PGAWC season`s Team competition ranking was won for team YAGABABA. Next two rounds were cruicial for getting a female winner after a total ranking: LIZ ADRIANI from Indonesia. With the final competition round of the whole season, we got a total ranking winner. With a minimum difference of 2 cms after 30 rounds, Goranu Djurkovic from Serbia reached second poduim place and last year`s Champion MATJAŽ FERARIČ from Slovenia, won this season, too.
